7 Symptoms of Lassa Fever you should know

Lassa fever also known as Lassa hemorrhagic fever (LHF) is an acute viral hemorrhagic fever caused by the Lassa virus which could be contacted when you eat food that has gotten in contact with the fluid of rats that carry the virus.

Reports say the virus was first discovered in 1969 in the town of Lassa, in Borno State.

The disease is said to incubate in the body for six to twenty-one (21) days, before an illness that affects vital organs occurs.

About 40 lives (including a Medical practitioner) have been lost as a result of the emergence of the disease in Nigeria.

Recently, the Plateau state Government reportedly called for support from stakeholders in its effort to eradicate Lassa fever in the state.

The Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole also revealed that the disease has been recorded in 10 states across Nigeria.

On Thursday, January 14, 2016, another death was recorded in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
